Style Icon: Hope Sandoval

Hope Sandoval is a really rockin' woman and the female half of the band Mazzy Star. You've probably heard their really great song Fade Into You from their 1993 album So Tonight That I Might See. You probably haven't heard their song Blue Light that's also really great. Their music is chill and slow and something you could (and I often do) fall asleep to, but also deeply angsty in that 90s I-don't-even-care-enough-to-raise-my-voice kind of way. In other words, it's incredible. And its largely due to Hope Sandoval's angelic and ethereal voice. According to the band's Wikipedia page, Hope has a "shy personality" and during concerts "prefers to sing in near-darkness with only a dim backlight." Sobasically she's probably one of those people whom you don't realize are cooler than you because they never speak, but when they do it's something Really Really Deep and Cool. And then they move to OPRF and become BFFs with Tavi.
.....Anyway, Hope also had incredible style way back in the nineties (I mean, she probably still does, but let's face it, OLD PEOPLE ARE GROSS). Pay special attention to her long, flowy skirts (and hair), her midriff-exposing crop-tops which are many times just button-downs unbuttoned at the bottom, and babydoll dresses. Not to mention her waifish figure, huge wide-set eyes, and totally great eyebrows. Hope is perfect girlcrush material/style inspiration for midterms when I'm angsty but also too emo to be angry and loud about it. Fade on.
